Swanwick WiFi Upgraded
Posted by Glyn
The Oceanwave team have recently been working hard to improve the connectivity, coverage and speed of the WiFi network here at Swanwick.
I’m please to inform you that the 4 aeriels which cover the Swanwick site have been upgraded to “Omni” 360 degree aeriels so coverage now incorporates Velshedas Restaurant and the boat storage areas shoreside.
The Power has also been increased, giving a better distance capability.
In addition to the new style areiels there are now two networks available at Swanwick; a 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g network is still operating as before. The other network will work if you have access to a triband laptop and operates on a 802.11a (faster) 5Ghz network. The 5Mhz network is also useful if there is nearby interference on the 2.4Mhz network and is not as busy.
I hope the upgrade will be of use to you.
If you are intrested in WiFi afloat and don’t already have an account, further details are available from oceanwave www.myoceanwave.co.uk or call 08451 240 405.
You could even respond to one of my blogs, from the comfort of your berth !
Meet the Team at Gosport Marina
Posted by wendyb@premiermarinas.com
We are planning on holding an informal chat with BBQ Hot Dogs and a glass of Pimms on Friday 14th August 2009, this is your chance to come and meet the team and put a face to a name. We will be around for most of the evening so please pop by at some point - there is no particular start time as it is really a ‘drop by’ evening.
We hope to see as many of our berth holders there so please come and join us!

your feedback about our new facilities…
Posted by andrewg@premiermarinas.com
We are pleased to announce that contractors have now completed the refurbishment of Brighton Marinas East Facilities building and we will be opening the newly completed section on Tuesday 15th June. In addition to the current works we will be installing a large shelf in each lobby area to encourage and assist the already active book swap and have ordered, folding shower benches and small vanity shelves for each cubicle.
We have received some great feedback from customers;
“What a great improvement – thank you!”,
“it is a delight to use the facilities”,
“ a ‘thumbs up’ from the East Jetty Berth-holders”
“I am particularly glad to see the unit for the disabled so sympathetically arranged for their needs”
Please add your own comments or feedback through the blog and we will act or feedback as appropriate.
(Please note that the final the snagging inspection identified a number of small items requiring attention i.e. 3 new ceiling tiles, 2 new cubicle feet, Gents double shower operating with a lower temperature and these will be dealt with in the near future).
Have you prepped your boat for the new season?

If the current meterological trend continues, then there should be many a happy day of boating ahead this summer! Lets face it, we deserve it after last year!
So our point is, don’t get caught short, summer has arrived early and you should be making the most of your boat whenever possible. If you’ve got some work to do on your boat, don’t put it off. Why not take advantage of Port Solent’s Summer special offer, get your boat lifted out of the water, washed off and blocked off, allowing you to carry out that essential maintenance that will ensure an entire summer of uninterrupted boating!
The price for a lift out/wash/relaunch at Port Solent is just £11 per metre for any boat length. A lift out/wash/block off/ 7 days ashore/relaunch is £35 per metre for boats 9.5m and under or £42 per metre for boats 9.6m+.
If you have any questions or would like to book, please feel free to email me, Mark Phillp, at portsolent@premiermarinas.com or call 023 92 21 0765.
Swanwick Marina - Job Done !

The Pontoon Scrubbing Team completed the cleaning of all the marina pontoons here at Swanwick last week, all in time for the new season !
I’m sure you’ll agree that the pontoons do look much smarter (and safer) having had their pre season scrub.
Meanwhile, the painters are in at the moment tidying up the Marina Reception exterior, making use of the good weather - we are all hoping it will last to the end of September !
Swanwick Boatyard Activity

Only six weeks to Easter !
Our Spring Launch program is well underway here at Swanwick and with with the current spell of good weather proving to be helpful to customers who have vessels laid up their ashore for the winter, antifouling, polishing and anode changing looks to be going very well.
If you normally leave your winter maintenance to the spring and haven’t already booked a lift, we have a couple of slots available in the run up to the Easter Bank Holiday (10 - 13th April this year).
Occasionally, we do experience canceled bookings so if you can afford to be flexible with your dates we offer a standby service (our yard team will arrange to lift your boat during the week), a great way of arranging last minute maintenance.
Our discounted services and hardstanding rates finish on the 31st March - call or email Shona on 01489 884 081 and she will help you book your service dates.
I hope your preparations for the new season go well - not long to go until we are all out on the water again !

Winter Safety on Pontoons & Boatyard
Posted by Glyn
If you are visiting your boat this winter please take care on the pontoons as you may find that the timber surfaces will be slippery due to ice and sometimes snow. To improve safety on the pontoons our Dockmasters will be salting the pontoon access ramps in the event of a sudden cold snap.
To counter the effect of algae growth on the marina fingers and walkways our Pontoon Cleaning Team was mobilised on the 1st December to remove growth on the pontoons. We have started on X pontoon and will be working West. The process normally takes around 3 months to complete so please bear with us – you may be interested to know that we have over 5.5 Kilometres of pontoon to scrub !
You may have noticed that there are quite a number of electrical cables snaking around the boat storage areas and pontoons. We have done our very best to keep cable runs to a minimum by deploying our mobile power pods shore side but do keep your wits about you when you are moving around the site.
Pot holes in our yard and car parking areas can often be a problem to us, especially with heavy machinery laying up vessels around the site. So from time to time we need to make good the odd patch and crack that appears over time. Our tarmac team, fondly known to us as The Pot Hole Pixies, were tasked with the repairs at the end of November and set to work with their rakes, shovels and large roller – 8 hours later, smooth surfaces had been created where previously craters had prevailed – The Pot Hole Pixies have worked their magic, yet again !
