Marina: Southsea
On Saturday 21st July, Berth Holders at Southsea Marina were invited to 'cruise in company' to the Nab Tower and back as part of the RYA's 'Push the Boat Out' event which aimed to get as many boat owners on the water as possible to showcase sailing to the nation and show support for our 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailors. The day's activities ended with an evening of delicious food and entertainment at the marina.
What's more, the sunshine even made a glorious appearance and everyone taking part in the event was in high spirits!
The first part of the day saw over 60 vessels leave the marina on a voyage round the Nab Tower and back. Due to a lack of wind, unfortunately, a fair percentage of the fleet was unable to make it round the Nab Tower and decided to return to the marina in time for the party!
For the second part of the day, Berth Holders enjoyed 'Caribbean' themed celebrations, which over 225 people attended - all of which had a jolly good time! The highlight of the evening was a 'Prize Raffle' in aid of The Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education in Fareham. There were some great prizes on offer which included a weekend at a top London Hotel, courtesy of Hogg Robinson Group and a trip to Cowes for lunch on a Squadron 55. We're very pleased to say that the raffle raised over 1000 for The Rainbow Centre! Thank you to everyone who donated - and for those who won, we hope you enjoy your prizes!
One Berth Holder said to Marina Manger, Rupert Bremer, "Thank you and the team for all the hard work that must have been involved in setting up the "Push the Boat Out" event for Berth Holders. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event, with the exception of us not winning the 'Deck Scrub', courtesy of your good self."
Another Berth Holder commented, "Thank you and your team for a super weekend! The atmosphere in the marina was fantastic with lots of happy, chatty people and a delicious barbeque too!
Berth Holders may have seen that during the course of the day, Southsea Marina organised a RIB and helicopter to capture photographs of Berth Holders out on the water, some of which are available to view on Southsea Marina's Facebook Page and are available to buy from Island Pictures, Southsea. All of these photographs are available in A4 size and framed for only 40 - after the cost of production; all of the proceeds will go to charity. The helicopter was provided courtesy of Wings For Warriors, an excellent charity aimed at rehabilitating injured service men (www.wings4warriors.org.uk).
The team at Southsea Marina would like to thank all of those who supported the event and made it such a wonderful day. We hope to hold a similar event at some point in the near future.
For any questions about purchasing photographs, you can telephone the Marina Reception on 023 9282 2719 or email southsea@premiermarinas.com.
