Ahoy Centre Charity's Boat Visits Brighton Marina

Date posted: Friday 4th September 2009

Marina: Brighton

Brighton Marina had the pleasure of playing host to the AHOY Centre Charity's boat this summer.

The AHOY Centre is a small, highly successful sailing charity, based in the Greenwich area of London, working primarily with disabled people of all ages and disadvantaged youth.

This summer saw AHOY complete the build of a unique, 40ft power boat, modified to allow people of all levels of ability to sail.

To officially launch the vessel and to raise awareness for the scheme, the new boat embarked on a highly publicised maiden voyage along the south coast, from Falmouth to Deptford for a presentation ceremony with HRH The Princess Royal.

As part of its maiden voyage, the boat arrived at Brighton Marina at the end of August where it moored up for a weekend of promotional trips out for people with disabilities. The scheme also attracted the attention of the Mayor of Brighton, Councillor Ann Norman, who came down to visit the boat whilst moored at the marina.

Brighton Marina is delighted to have been able to support this great water based charity and wish the Ahoy centre the best of luck with this new boat and venture.
