What treasure can be found on the shoreline, how to have the best day out and what wildlife you can spot throughout the year are all themes of feature articles in this year's Chichester Harbour News and Guide 2012.

The 84-page magazine produced annually by Chichester Harbour Conservancy is now available. Feature articles cover a range of harbour-related topics. Local journalist Janet McMeekin went in search of the perfect harbour day out and valiantly tried boat trips, bike rides and picnics to come up with her suggestions. Four people who are lucky enough to work within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) all tell their story. Local bed and breakfast owner Sue Muffett explains how she loves to share her passion for the harbour with guests, whilst farmer Simon Sprackling talks about the challenges of farming in an environmentally sensitive area.

The new Director of the Conservancy, Siun Cranny, is interviewed and outlines her aims to encourage younger people to get more involved with the AONB. Keen racing sailor Roger Palmer shares his tips on using the wind and tide to advantage when racing near East Head. A new feature this year is a directory section. Packed with information for visitors by land or sea, tide tables, local contacts and a directory of local marine services this new section is sure to be useful for most readers.

The Harbour News and Guide is generously supported by The Friends of Chichester Harbour. It is available free of charge from local tourist offices, the Harbour Office and other local outlets.

The Chichester Harbour Conversancy would like to urge all boat owners who use email to sign up to their eNewsletter. This is now the only way to receive vital Local Notices to Mariners. From Easter they will also be issuing a weekly navigation report with details of location and timing of racing in the harbour to help users avoid particularly busy times and places. Summer Events

This summer take a sailing trip with a difference on the vintage oyster boat 'Terror'. She is a 28' traditional gaff-rigged, open decked sailing boat. The boat is crewed by volunteers and all passengers can lend a hand during the two-hour sailing trip from Emsworth.

Enjoy a summer evening cruise with friends and family onboard the Solar Heritage. This solar-powered catamaran can take up to 50 passengers and can be chartered for private trips. From just £225.

On the land, this summer will be the 30th consecutive year we have walked around Chichester Harbour on the Festival of Harbour Walks. Come along for one or more days of the Festival from 22-25 May 2012. For more details visit www.conservancy.co.uk.
