Damp is the hidden plague that afflicts all our boats. It invades cushions, curtains and carpets with mildew and mould. It corrodeselectrical connections, rots woods and rusts equipment. But where does this moisture come from?

The answer is from the air inside the boat. All air contains moisture. The amount of airborne water vapour depends on temperature and pressure. Warm air can hold more vapour than cold. Relative humidity is the amount of water vapour in the air as a percentage of the maximum at a given temperature: 0% is bone dry, 100% is fog or rain.
