This was first production yacht developed jointly between A.H. Moody & Son Ltd, Southampton and Marine Projects (Plymouth) Limited. It was an immediate success and models have appeared ever since. Power and Sail magazine, October 1974: 'Planned as a comfortable family cruising yacht of light displacement and with a high performance under sail or power, the Moody 33 shows many of the characteristics to be found in the more trendy production yachts of today. Clean, smooth, sleek and with high freeboard, a carefully calculated layout below decks, a roomy central cockpit with two-berth cabin aft, a simple masthead sloop rig, and the fin keel and skeg rudder profile expected of fast yachts, the Moody 33 has all these and a good deal more besides'.

Renowned for the outstanding quality of their craft, both Moody and Prout bring together the very best in yachting so it's no coincidence that the first yacht to emerge form this fusion of knowledge, experience and passion should create such a stir. With her long waterline for reduced resistance, and advanced hull dynamics, the Excel 34 assures smooth, stable and above all, pleasurable cruising. In keeping with all Moody's, she's a breeze to handle. Light on the helm, and with all the principal sail controls to hand in the cockpit (including single line reefing for the mainsail) she can be easily sailed by two people. To fully appreciate the Excel 34, you have to step below decks. Innovative space management and brilliantly thought-out design has resulted in a yacht which offers extraordinary levels of comfort for a boat of her size. The light, airy interior creates the the perfect showcase for Moody's signature craftsmanship, the furniture glowing with richly varnished teak finishes. And while the styling has an undeniably classic feel, no contemporary convenience has been spared. The three-cabin layout comprises a twin berth cabin forward, a saloon and a superbly spacious owner's cabin aft. There is also a large, well equipped galley, a chart area with wet hanging locker and, as in all Moody craft, generous locker and stowage space.
