Q. What is there to see and do in Gosport?
A. Plenty. Walk the 1.9-mile Waterfront Trail, following the chain motifs and mosaics alongside Portsmouth Harbour. Along the way, you can visit the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and Explosion! Museum of Naval Firepower. Step back in time at the 17th Century Village. Alternatively, tour Gosport's own Oakleaf Brewery and try its award winning beers. Q. Where is good to eat?
A. Gosport has a good mix of pubs and restaurants, with waterside eateries giving you a ringside seat for the bustling Solent, fine dining from a la carte menus at The Anglesey, The Alverbank and The Old Lodge, and bistros such as Pebbles at Stokes Bay and Peppers at the boating lake. There are numerous pubs. The Ship at Lee-on-the-Solent is always popular along with the Cocked Hat in Privett Road.
Q. How about shopping?
A. Gunwharf Quays is just across the water - with more than 90 designer outlets, 20 bars and restaurants, with savings of up to 70 per cent off High Street prices. Just a couple of minutes away from the marina, Gosport High Street has all the usual names. Markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays prove popular. On the second Tuesday, a Farmers Market is held next to the regular market. In September, the town holds a Michaelmas Fair with more than 80 stalls.
Q. Any other day trips you would recommend?
A. The Isle of Wight is a short sail away. Bembridge, Cowes, and Yarmouth are all well worth a visit.
Q. Is there a beach locally that my children can play on if we decide to stay on the boat?
A. Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent are clean and safe and well worth a trip. Plenty of refreshments are available from nearby tearooms and cafes.
Q. Are there any good walks?
A. The woodlands at Alver Valley Country Park and the 67-acre nature reserve, The Wildgrounds, are perfect to explore.
