Weather guides

Check the weather forecast. If in doubt, stay in port. Take adequate clothing for all eventualities. Have a bolthole port if the weather changes and you cannot reach your proposed destination. A marina like Port Solent is a fantastic option - with cinema, restaurants, bars and shops.

The coastguard broadcasts gale warnings, strong wind warnings and urgent navigational warnings on VHF 23 and 86 following alerts on VHF 16. Routine weather broadcasts are broadcast on VHF 23 and VHF 86 every three hours, starting at 1:30am local time. Additional broadcasts are made in bad weather.

If you register online on this website you can benefit from Premier's weather forecasts which also give you synoptic charts and wave height, pressure and wind speed.
