Fantastic Turnout For Cruise to the Island
Last weekend saw the Port Solent and Gosport Premier team celebrate a fantastic turnout for its first RYA Active Cruise in Company to the River Medina. A fleet of eight boats took part with eighteen participants polishing up their seamanship and navigation skills, under the helpful guidance of Karen Rawson, Chief Instructor at Sunsail, in a lead boat.
Also present from Premier Marinas were; Louise Williams, Specialist Sales Advisor, Graham Bristowe, Manager of both Port Solent and Gosport marinas, Josh McCarthney, Lock Master at Port Solent (who did a fantastic job in the rib) and also Hollie Luff and Andy Mills from the Premier Marinas Head Office team.
Enjoying a passage planning and pilotage briefing at Port Solent Marina, boats proceeded (in breezy conditions) to East Cowes Marina. The wind over tide made the exit of the harbour and twenty minutes thereafter quite a lumpy sail, but the passage and a starboard tack and sail along the island, made good use of the wind and the fleet arrived at East Cowes on schedule – thank you to Dean & Reddyhoff for making us all very welcome!
The afternoon was at leisure and once berthed the group enjoyed a RIB ride to the Folly Inn for some gastro pub food and the evening ending with a drink…or two. The Folly Inn wasn’t as raucous as it can be but there were nonetheless people dancing on the tables!
Feeling well rested on Sunday morning the group set off at 9am with some making straight for home, whilst others chose to make a day of the conditions that were an improvement from Saturday.
There was agreement all round that events like these are of benefit in a number of ways. As well as the social context, they are a great way to acquire knowledge informally, and also an encouragement to the less experienced to do more than they would if sailing alone.
Graham Bristowe from Premier Marinas said: “We have already had great feedback from those who participated and there is a sense that as we develop events like these there is a real demand for them. I’d like to thank all of those that sailed with us this weekend and also a big thanks to Karen from Sunsail and the Premier crew who made it happen”.
