Premier Working Towards ISO 45001
Premier Marinas is working hard to develop a Health and Safety Management System that is aligned with ISO 45001 (the International Standard for Occupational Safety and Health). This group certification requires a series of audits to be conducted by the certification body The British Standards Institute at Swanwick, Chichester and Port Solent Marinas and the group’s Head Office at Swanwick. These external audits will determine the outcome of the certification and will decide whether Premier will be recommended for the ISO 45001 certification. These audits are conducted annually at different marinas and always Head Office and have been taking place since 1st March 2019 through to 29th August 2019.
This certification relates to all staff at Premier from the Marinas through to Head Office with the key themes being leadership, top level management commitment, consultation and participation of workers and continual improvement. The ISO certification therefore involves everyone at Premier Marinas working together to ensure that they maintain the highest standards of health and safety. This certification reflects Premiers’ dedication and the company’s desire to take its health and safety obligations seriously to ensure the safety of all staff and visitors to its marinas.
As many may already be aware, this is the pinnacle of an organisations health and safety management system, as these standards are not just given away. The audits are intense and require a lot of work to pass, and ultimately gain the ISO Standard, particularly where organisations which have multiple sites set geographically far apart. To reach these high standards, Premier has invested a lot of time and resource with a view to becoming the first marina group in the UK to achieve the ISO 45001 certification and lead the way for the industry.
Premier expects to find out later this year whether it has been recommended for certification however, this is a live management system and is always ongoing, so challenging annual audits are conducted annually which Premier will need to pass in order to retain the ISO 45001 certification.
