Premier Welcomes Ocean Youth Trust South To Endeavour Quay
This winter Ocean Youth Trust South's sail training vessel Prolific spent a few weeks out of the water at Endeavour Quay. The time ashore was needed in order to repair the bow thruster, service the seacocks and renew the antifouling, the Trust also needed to do some work on the mainmast.
Prolific’s Staff Skipper Peta Koczy said: “The team at Endeavour Quay have been really friendly and welcoming and it was great to see the care and professionalism with which they lifted Prolific out of the water. They took time to communicate with me and my team and this was hugely appreciated on what is one of the most stressful days of my year! We would be delighted to meet anyone who is interested in finding out more about our charitable work and perhaps supporting us or getting involved. The kettle is usually on if anyone would like to come and visit!”
From March to November each year the Trust sails full time with groups of young people aged 12-25: some of the young people are very disadvantaged and vulnerable, others may be mainstream school groups or taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme. In order to sustain such a demanding sailing programme, while looking after the safety of young people – many of whom have never sailed before, it is vital that the Ocean Youth Trust South keeps Prolific maintained to the highest standards. The team puts in tremendous efforts each winter to ensure that the vessel is ready for the season to come.
Premier was happy to assist with Prolific at Endeavour Quay, and are glad the Trust were able to experience the first class service that is available to our berth holders throughout the year. Prolific is usually berthed in Southampton, but the charity’s office is based in Royal Clarence in Gosport.
