A2 Rigging Back After AZAB Race
Mel Sharp has been trading as A2 Rigging for 23 years. During this time he has assisted numerous entrants in the 4 yearly Azores and Back Yacht race (AZAB) which starts and finishes in Falmouth. This year, Mel took part with his daughter Claire as co-skipper; undertaking the gruelling 2400 mile race which saw a wide range of conditions from clear blue skies to stormy seas. The 2019 race recorded several retirements due to boat breakages with winds reaching gale force 8 at points, causing those remaining to have to reduce their speeds to maintain the safety of both crews and boats.
Mel said of their exploits; “Our aim was to compete and finish both legs in one piece and ensure the boat was safe. We succeeded on both counts, by being the 3rd family combination out of 9, 6th in class of 11 and 25th out of a fleet of 47 - it is undoubtedly the biggest sailing challenge we have taken part in and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.”
Mel and Claire now safely back after returning on Sunday 30th June, are live and ready for business from those looking for work on rigging, plus any cover making needs that berth holders may have with the sun now looking like a more permanent fixture for the summer, and some beautiful cruising days now on the horizon!
