Mark celebrates 25 years with Premier Marinas
Friday April 10th marked a special day for Marina Manager, Mark Evans as it was on this date in 1995 that he joined Falmouth Marina.
Moving to Cornwall with his family when he was six years old, Mark’s first experience of the world of work was helping out at his father’s business – two large hotels on Falmouth’s seafront.
In 1990 after leaving school, for a change he took a summer job at Falmouth Marina. Eager to learn more about the marine industry, after the season ended Mark re-located to Southampton to study ‘Marine Leisure’ for the next two years.
It was in March 1995 he received a phone call from the owner of Falmouth Marina with an offer of becoming a Berthing Master; on Friday 10th April he officially started this new role and the rest is history!
Mark moved up to the role of Assistant Marina Manager in 2000 (three years after Premier Marinas took over the site) and was subsequently promoted to Marina Manager in 2011, following the retirement of John Osmond.
In Mark’s own words:
“Having been brought up in the hospitality industry, marinas are similar in many ways to hotels. But much more interesting! Although not much of a sailor, I’ve always loved the water, being in it, on it or around it. So a career in the marina industry just made sense. Never a dull day, never quite knowing what’s going to happen next. Working in a lovely environment, providing what I hope has been good customer service to lots of great people. My passion for Falmouth, the estuary and Cornwall has kept me here and I hope to be involved in the progression and development of Falmouth Marina for many more years to come. Thanks to all who have made this journey interesting, fun and fulfilling. Thanks also to the fantastic team that I’ve worked with over the years.”
