Berthing Tips during Free Flow
During free flow, when the water is flooding in through the lock prior to high water, manoeuvring and getting safely alongside your berth can be challenging. Study the effects of water flow around the piles and moored boats and the wind direction and strength before deciding on your berthing plan.
One of the best ways to deal with this flood free flow period is to turn the negative into a positive and make the flow of the water work for you. If your berth is at the western end of the marina, where the effect of the free flow stream is more pronounced, try continuing east to the area between G and H pontoons then turn back into the flow so you make your approach into the stream. Thus you retain a more positive control and the risk of mishap is significantly reduced.
