Building Knowledge Within The Team
Following in the footsteps of his colleague Hamish, Brighton Marina’s Berthing Master, Ian Beedham has recently passed his Day Skipper theory course; an achievement he has been working towards alongside his busy work commitments.
Premier staff are not restricted by their job roles when it comes to training courses – everyone is encouraged to further their education within the marine industry and to improve their knowledge and skills about boats and boat handling. Premier holds a Gold ‘Investors in People’ accreditation and as such, Brighton Marina encourages its staff to learn all about the industry to help provide the best possible service for berth holders and visitors.
The RYA Day Skipper course involved chart and course plotting and gives staff knowledge of navigation, "rules of the road" and tides and tidal streams, so our marina teams can then confidently and accurately share information with berth holders and visiting vessels.
Ian has been a part of the Brighton team for under 2 years, joining as a seasonal staff member before quickly moving up into the role of Marina Host. He is now a Berthing Master, providing further support and flexibility to the berthing team at Brighton.
Ian said: “The course was great, I especially enjoyed learning about the tides and navigational aids; I now feel confident in being able to pass this extra knowledge to berth holders when they require assistance.”
Premier would like to offer their congratulations to Ian on his achievement.
