Places to visit and things to do
Nestling in the quiet upper reaches of the River Hamble, Swanwick Marina offers some beautiful riverside walks and wonderful opportunities to observe wildlife. Nearby, the picturesque villages of Bursledon and Warsash are accessible on foot and, a bit further afield, the village of Hamble can be visited by taxi or river taxi.
If you like to shop, Swanwick Marina is just two miles from Whiteley Shopping Centre, where you’ll find a supermarket and an eclectic mix of restaurants and high street shops that remain open late most evenings. Further afield, Southampton City offers a full shopping experience at the West Quay shopping centre and the newly built Watermark complex with a brand new cinema and excellent range of new restaurants for a great dining experience.
For something more cultural, there’s lots to discover in Southampton. You can find out more about the Titanic and the great liners that have helped to shape Southampton’s maritime history at SeaCity Museum or walk the ancient town walls, taking in the 800-year-old Bargate, The Medieval Merchant’s House and The Tudor House and Garden. Just outside the town walls, you'll find the Solent Sky Museum, where you’ll discover the important role Southampton played in Britain’s aviation history. You additionally be able to observe the 18 aircrafts there, including the Spitfire and Supermarine S6b (N248)!
When you return to the marina and you’d like to relax, there’s a charming onsite café which overlooks the prettiest stretch of the River Hamble – The Boat House Café.
