Looking Back On 2019 At Chichester Marina

Chichester Marina, has had a challenging but overall successful 2019 with many fond memories. It has been a great year on the events side with a hugely successful summer Bohemian Rhapsody ‘Film by the Water’ in June plus berth holder summer and Christmas drinks evenings which were both well supported. Not forgetting the bigger and better Chichester Marina Boat Show which despite battling some adverse weather conditions, proved be a successful weekend.

In November around 50 Chichester Marina berth holders enjoyed Premier's annual weekend pilgrimage to St Malo courtesy of Brittany Ferries. It was a great mini break with people either staying in picturesque St Malo itself or venturing further afield with a well-timed break to the appalling weather experienced at home. The cruise was a great opportunity to get away for a couple of days to do some Christmas shopping in a mazy seaside town or to enjoy a fantastic, relaxed French lunch with fellow berth holders and friends.

Operationally, the Chichester team is now at full strength and carrying out lots of winter maintenance around the marina including the jet washing of all pontoons and fingers, winter planting of flowers and landscaping plus the normal plethora of upkeep jobs required to keep the services and facilities in fine fettle.

During the year the marina handled close to 20,000 boat movements with a few thousand supporting lock operations. By the end of the year the boatyard will have lifted around 800 boats and conducted some 220 tows keeping the marina team busy year round.

Looking forward to next year, the marina is already busy with the lock shutdown and upgrade period where the primary focus is on getting ready for the season to begin. Preparations are already well underway with high pressure jet washing of the lock facia boards and lock gates. This will continue throughout January on early morning Spring low tides to minimise the inconvenience for those venturing out for a sail. The main shutdown will commence on 7th February with safety fencing, support equipment, containers and Portakabins arriving earlier that week. It is anticipated that the works will complete on 12th March with a contingency date of 20th March should there be emergent works or bad weather delays. Elsewhere, the Chichester Marina Boat Show dates are 25th – 26th April with more boats and exhibitors than ever attending.

Finally, the Chichester Marina team wish to thank you for your continued support this year and hope berth holders have enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!
