Lock Works Now Complete
The Chichester team is delighted to announce that lock modernisation works are now complete and the lock is set to open on a reduced service from Saturday 21st March.
On Saturday 21st March the lock will begin a commissioning process; operating a reduced service that takes place around high tides, during which time the opening and closing cycle of the lock system will be monitored for faults as the new equipment beds in. On Friday 27th or Saturday 28th March, (subject to the lock system performing as required) our normal lock service will resume.
This £400,000 programme of modernisation works included standard lock maintenance, the replacement of gate bearings; replacing the lock’s motors and gearboxes; rewiring the lock and installing a modern new computerised lock control system.
Marina Manager, Paul Cook commented: “We are grateful for our berth holders’ patience whilst the works were carried out and in spite of several weeks of adverse weather Premier’s Maintenance Team and its contractors completed the works within the time scheduled. The completion of the work means that the lock will be more efficient to operate, more reliable and fit for the coming years”.
