Swanwick Marina Development
On Wednesday 28th November 08 Fareham Council granted planning permission (subject to certain criteria) for the exciting and integrated redevelopment of Swanwick Marina.
Premier Marinas introduced the proposals following the purchase of the Marina in 2005. The new site is planned around a brand new Pavilion, the relocation and expansion of the boatyard and a new area for riverside housing.
Top of the list is the new Marina Pavilion. It will feature a chandlery, a restaurant with café bar and units for new and used boat sales and marina-related businesses.
Berth Holders will enjoy new changing and washing facilities in the Pavilion and the old pontoons will be replaced to provide modern berthing facilities with a full range of wet side services.
The boatyard operations are to be relocated to the west of the marina, with purpose-built workshops and boat lifting and handling facilities. The expanded boatyard will enable the creation of new job opportunities in the area.
52 new homes are planned at the east end of the marina next to the existing houses and they have been designed sympathetically to respond to the nearby conservation area. The new homes will be a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed houses and flats, with approximately 35% allocated as affordable homes for shared ownership and those on low incomes.
Being at a focal point in the River Hamble, the ecology and environmental issues at Swanwick are all being addressed. To link up with existing local footpaths, a new riverside walk will be created as part of the plans.
