Gosport Welcome GAFIRS Free of Charge
Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) is relocating one of its inshore lifeboats to Gosport Marina. After testing the launching dock throughout January, they expect to be in full operation from Gosport by the end of the month. Premier is absolutely delighted to be able to support such a valuable local rescue service.
All mariners hope that they will never need to rely on the emergency services, however it is great to have the peace of mind that should the worst occur, GAFIRS are located in Gosport Marina and will be readily available to carry out rescues in Portsmouth Harbour. Gosport Marina is supporting the GAFIRS with their berthing provided free of charge. This berthing is set to help the GAFIRS team cover a wider area and provide a much quicker response time to local incidents with the other inshore lifeboat based at Stokes Bay.
GAFIRS operations director Peter Brown said: “GAFIRS has been based in Stokes Bay, Gosport, for its entire 49-year history and currently has lifeboats crewed by volunteers throughout the year. However, we believe that now is the time for us to extend our capability and to improve the resilience of our service.”
