Pile Replacement Programme at Falmouth
As part of Premier’s continued maintenance work at Falmouth Marina, next month will see three of the oldest piles in the marina replaced, as over the years they have been affected by accelerated low water corrosion (ALWC).
This is a condition which affects steel piles at the low water mark and is caused by salt water corroding the metal and weakening the pile.
The works will be carried out over several days by local company, KML Limited. Weighing in at 2 tonnes and measuring 15 metres long, the new piles will be inserted by a piling barge and are expected to have a life of approximately 25 years.
