An opportunity has arisen for a Duty Manager to join the team at Portishead Marina near Bristol.
This is a varied, hands-on operational role to support the Marina Manager to deliver an outstanding customer experience and operate a safe and commercially successful marina, deputising in their absence. We are looking for an individual to be an ambassador of first-class customer service delivery, to be able to lead a team and show balanced decision making and problem-solving abilities.
The successful candidate will work as part of a practical, safety-focused team and will play an essential role in supporting the boatyard operation, assisting with vessel lifting, launching, towing and general yard and marina activity. Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage but training, where required, will be given.
The role of a Duty Manager is to:
- Drive customer retention and new business through delivery of high standards of customer care and service
- Ensure health & safety is at the forefront of daily operations; actively monitoring compliance to the company policy health and safety policy by all using site, together with maintaining visible environmental compliance.
- Promote and maximise the utilisation of the marina and boatyard, ensuring and developing profitability from all income streams.
- Help to communicate business changes.
- Other specific on-site duties such as the operation of the lock.
The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate:
- A proven track record of leading, coaching and mentoring a team.
- A supportive and positive mindset, ‘can do’ and flexible approach.
- Experience of Environmental and Health & Safety management.
- Good decision making and problem-solving ability, sometimes under pressure, with ability to proactively plan, prioritise workload, delegate appropriately and communicate with all stakeholders.
- Experience using computers and with training the ability to use our business software packages
- A full UK driving licence is essential, as is the ability to swim.
- Experience of boat handling, lifting operations or operating boatyard plant is highly desirable. Relevant plant or lifting equipment certification would be advantageous
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential
In all cases we will support you to develop your skills and reach your potential. The role will require flexibility with varying start and finish times during busy periods and will include weekend working and bank/public holidays as part of a shift rota. The role entails an 'on call' out of hour's rota and the successful candidate must be able to attend the marina in the event of an emergency on their duty week.
