A fond farewell to our longstanding team member
After an outstanding 49 years working at Swanwick Marina, Les Ayling will soon be enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Les started as an apprentice shipwright for Moody’s back in 1977. A fun fact to represent his time spent onsite here, Les can remember his aunt bringing cows down to the river from a small holding she had locally before Moody’s was even developed!
When Premier bought Swanwick in December 2005, Les was appointed Yard Foreman where he has worked ever since, bringing an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience to our day-to-day operations. A message from Graham Bristowe, General Manager: “In the past few years, Les has suffered with his health, but he is leaving us as fit as I have seen him for a long while and we wish him and Sarah all the very best as they embark on their retirement together. I have had the pleasure of working with Les for the last 6 years and will personally miss his huge boat knowledge, problem solving and good humour.”
Welcoming change at Swanwick Marina
Over the coming weeks there will be some welcome changes visible at Swanwick Marina. Investment has been made to complete a full refurbishment of the marina reception, creating a more welcoming and comfortable environment for both staff and visitors. A few of our onsite businesses are also making a change and moving to new units onsite including Sea Ventures and Allspars.
We are delighted to confirm our second dedicated dry stack forklift will be functional this April at Swanwick Marina. The addition of a second forklift will allow our team to get more boats lifted and launched and provide further support for our busy dry stack operations.

Universal Marina invites you to a Flare Amnesty and Open Day
Prepare for the season ahead by joining us for a Flare Amnesty and Open Day at Universal Marina on Saturday 11th April.
Bring your flares along to have them checked and disposed of safely by experts Seago Yachting, get your lifejacket checked for free by the local RNLI Water Safety team and the onsite businesses at Universal Marina will also be hosting an Open Day for you to explore their services and offers. Boat show season is about to kick off and we’re starting off 2026 with UK BoatFests West, South and North - a popular series of boating festivals where you can explore boats, marine gear, watersports equipment, and everything boating in a lively festival atmosphere. Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix – 25th to 26th July
SailGP’s fast and furious racing returns to Portsmouth this summer, with fans set to be wowed for a second year running as the flying fleet of 12 F50s battle it out for victory in the tumultuous waters of the Solent.
