The far end of the North Harbour is used seasonally by a number of authorised organisations for the purposes of youth sail training, RYA instruction and SCUBA.
In the interests of maintaining safe separation from vessel movements and these activities a restricted access area has been established.
The area is marked with 6x red buffs in a line from position:
50°47.839’N, 000°19.984’E to 50°47.927’N 000°.19.907E’.
No vessel to enter the Restricted Access Area without specific authorisation from the Duty Lock Keeper.
- Approved organisations are to contact the Duty Lock Keeper to request permission to operate
within the Restricted Access Area. - Anyone else wishing to use the Restricted Access Area must also contact the Duty Lock Keeper to
request permission. Sea trials, calibration of equipment, engine tests and similar requests will not
unreasonably be declined unless an approved organisation is operating at that time. - In all cases:
• Please provide the Lock Keeper with a likely finish time and the activity being undertaken
• Maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch17
• Keep below the 5knt speed limit at all times, no wake
• Maintain a good lookout
• Inform the Lock Keeper once you have left the Restricted Access Area - Approved Organisations are those who have submitted Risk Assessments applicable to their
activity and governing body rules. As part of the Harbour’s Safety Management System, control
over the access and use of the Restricted Access Area is required to maintain safety. The Lock
Keepers Decision therefore must be respected.
This Notice is to remain in force until 30th September 2026
