Nab Tower Charity Pursuit
Add this to my calendar
Gosport Marine Scene will be staging the 4th edition of the annual charity event “The Nab Tower Pursuit” for the local sailing community. The event for sailing yachts will take place on the 15th June 2019, with participants competing for the coveted Gosport Challenge Cup.
The pursuit course starts from GAFIRS on the eastern side of Stokes Bay, heading off towards the Nab Tower and back to the finish line by Fort Gilkicker. The pursuit works with yachts starting in groups ordered by size, with the aim of the fleet finishing at around the same time. Points are awarded for a variety of categories, including early entry (10%), fund raising (50%) and for the time on the course (40%). There will then be a prize giving and celebratory barbecue hosted at the Hornet Services Sailing Club on Haslar Creek in the evening.
The event has helped raise over £18,000 for charities in the past three years, with a proportion of this going directly to fund Gosport Marine Scene’s youth development programme ‘Gosport Marine Futures’. The programme was set up by Gosport Marine Scene to help fund local youngsters who show an interest in a marine-related career, but need support and funding in order to pursue their aspirations. Entrants to the pursuit are able to support their own preferred charity, but are encouraged to choose Gosport Marine Futures or a charity that has marine relevance.
This is a great community event and is NOT a race in the traditional sense, but a ‘fun chase to fund raise’ for your favourite charity. Entrants don’t have to be out and out racing yachts, cruising yachts and family crews are welcomed. Premier looks forward to seeing some of its Solent berth holders out on the water for this charity event and getting into the community spirit!
