Dredging Preparations Underway at Gosport
Preparations for Gosport Marina’s 2020 dredging programme are underway with a planned start date of Monday 28th September. Originally scheduled to begin earlier in the year, ahead of the boating season, our dredging programme was unfortunately delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Preparation for the start of the works began this week with the marina team removing the fingers north of pontoon D and south of pontoon E. External contractors, ML Dredging are scheduled to arrive at the marina on 28th September to begin dredging and focus on Pontoons D, E and F and inside the main channel of the marina; approximately 25,000m3 will be removed and deposited at the Nab Tower disposal site.
Access through the main channel will also be restricted whilst the dredging works are going on, however, an alternative entrance/exit is being created by removing part of the floating breakwater to allow berth holders, the dredger and the split barge access into the marina.
Jonathan Walcroft CMM, Marina Manager said: “Due to the complex nature of this year’s dredging programme our marina team are contacting each of the berth holders affected by the works to discuss berthing requirements during this period. For some it may involve a temporary relocation to a different pontoon within Gosport and for others potentially moving to another of Premier’s marinas in the local area, but we are working hard to mitigate disruption to our berth holders as far as we can during this time.”
“The works will be completed within the next two months, weather permitting, and we will keep berth holders updated via News Edits and through direct communications.”
