Southsea Marina Trials Natural Starling Deterrent
In order to avoid the unwanted mess that birds such as starlings and pigeons deposit onto vessels and pontoons, Southsea Marina is running a trial using the services of Avian Control to help deter wild birds from roosting on customers boats.
Avian Control uses falcons which are fully fed when they fly and which do not harm or catch any of the birds; the reduction of birds roosting on vessels in the marina will hopefully help prevent damage and mess over the winter season.
The initial trial took place on Sunday the 30th August, with plans for a follow up visit within the next few weeks to assess the full effectiveness. Rupert Bremer, Duty Manager said: “We appreciate how annoying the blackberry guano is and we will keep trying different solutions to keep berth holder boats clean and protected.”
