Sea Survival Training Centre - 24 Hours in a Life Raft

Date: to Saturday, 21 May 2022 Add this to my calendar

The staff at the ‘Sea Survival Training Centre’ situated at Horsea Island, part of the Phoenix Training Unit at HMS Excellent are aiming to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Charity (RNRMC) by spending 24 hours afloat in a 25 person life raft at Port Solent Marina whilst only consuming the food rations contained within.

The event is being held to honour the 30,000 personnel who lost their lives during the abandonment phase of Naval vessels during the Second World War alone due to poor training and the lack of life saving equipment. Due to natural causes, peacetime incidents and wartime, abandonment is still a possibility in todays armed forces and service personnel may find themselves afloat in a life raft for up to 24 hours. The team at Sea Safety Training Centre will replicate this whilst only consuming the food rations contained within to honour those lives lost at sea.

Donations to support the team and the cause can be made on their JustGiving page here.
