175th Dartmouth Regatta
The 175th instalment of the Dartmouth Regatta is soon upon us with it due to start on Saturday. The week long celebrations, incorporating the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta (from 29th to 31st August), will kick off on Saturday 24th August with the Royal Regatta Tennis Tournament, the Swimming Gala, as well as some sailing events. New for this year is the new look Regatta Family Funday in the Royal Avenue Gardens, packed full of new and exciting family friendly activities plus the ever popular dog show. This year the Regatta also welcomes the return of the Kon-Tiki Raft Race!
The Royal Dart Yacht Club, Dartmouth Yacht Club and Dittisham Sailing Club, organise the 50 plus sailing events which are spread over the eight days of the Regatta. Other events on the river are the Illuminated Boat Procession, the Classic Craft Review and Steamboat Rally.
Many more sporting attractions are planned this year: the Regatta Road Races, a one-day golf tournament at the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club, the Regatta Bowling Competition and an evening Darts tournament held at the Conservative Club in Dartmouth.
Every year the Regatta hosts a variety of entertainment. There will be music in the Bandstand throughout the week, and on Coronation Park, and there will be 2 extra special open air evenings planned for you: a return of the Sundowner on Wednesday 28th August and a ‘Royal’ Proms in the Park on Friday 30th August sponsored by Premier’s Noss on Dart Marina. The park will then turn into a family fun zone in the daytime with the best view in Devon. Thursday 29th August will see the Regatta 175 Celebration party at BRNC, with canapés, HM Corp of Drums and jazz in a fantastic setting. All tickets are available from the Dartmouth Royal Regatta website.
