Southsea Marina Updates In 2019
2019 has been a year full of updates at the marina, the work has been undertaken to help improve the look and feel of the marina to keep it running at its best. The marina team place highly what berth holders ask for and try and implement these suggestions to ensure that a good experience is had by all.
The year was very busy with new bridgehead replacements to A and J gates; the J gate bridgehead replacement was completed in November. Following an £83,000 investment from Premier there has also been new emergency crane works for the cill which has been underway recently and is close to completion, whilst the 5 year cill maintenance has been completed following a short lockdown for engineers to check the cill is working without issue. Southsea Marina has also had surveys completed in 2019 to help get a marina dredging programme together which will hopefully take place in 2020. Alongside this there are also plans to replace the piles in the channel which will also hopefully take place during 2020.
With Premier obtaining the ISO45001 Health and Safety accreditation for running effective occupational health and safety management systems, the past year has seen work to conform Premier’s health and safety practices. One of which has been the boatyard segregation project to help keep berth holders and visitors safe from boatyard operations. This year the Marina Reception received a revamp costing around £25,000 which included the introduction of a berth holders' lounge area where customers can come in and enjoy a complimentary drink in comfort on the sofas.
Southsea Marina has also undertaken general maintenance work such as the boat hoist refurbishment; piles being tidied up and repainted; additional cycle racks installed; the disabled lift refurbished and made more aesthetically pleasing whilst there have also been more electric sockets added to J Pontoon. All in all it has been a busy year for the team to ensure the marina is in tip top condition.
Elsewhere, the BBQ area has been a big success this year and has allowed berth holders to come together and enjoy a communal space when the weather has been nice, whilst the marina team were very grateful to all those who attended Currymas 2019 and the Southsea Litter Pick social in the summer which was also a great success.
The Southsea Marina team hope that berth holders have enjoyed the festive period and would like to wish everyone a happy New Year!
