The Dieppe Dash

Date: Add this to my calendar

Now in its fourth year the Dieppe Dash has cemented its self in the calendars of the boating population of Sussex. This unique event hosted by Brighton Marina Yacht club is described as 3 events in one, combining a yacht race, sail cruise and motor boat muster.

The event which runs annually on the first Bank Holiday weekend in May (May 2nd 2014) departs from Brighton Marina early on the Friday morning with entrants making the short passage to the beautiful port of Dieppe in France.

Where many events are struggling for entries the Dieppe Dash has seen consistently strong entrance each year with many entrants returning year after year. The organisers put this success down to the unique broad appeal of the event. The yacht racers enjoy a short early season offshore race, whilst the power boaters and cruising yachtsmen enjoy the opportunity to travel as a group to a new port without the hassle of making arrangements on arrival (the event organisers pre-arrange free berthing for the entire weekend and have a dedicated shore crew to greet each boat on their arrival).

The Dieppe Dash has been the basis of many previous entrants maiden channel crossing. With several of the cruising boats building confidence to the point where they choose to compete and in one case win their class in the racing fleets in subsequent years.

Compared to similar events the Dieppe Dash has a very modest entry fee of just £45 per boat (until the 15th April when the fee rises to £65 for late entries. This fee covers all of the organisation and crew packs, 3 nights mooring in Dieppe a welcome buffet and prize giving event.

With early interest in the 2014 event higher than ever the organisers anticipate a bumper year for entries, for more information on the event and to register head to dieppedash.com
