Winter Workshop – Top Tips For Effective Engine Care
Last weekend Premier Swanwick and onsite Premier Marine Insurance providers, GJW Direct held a collaborative Engine Care Taster Workshop.
Delivered by Jonathan Parker, of Parker Marine Services Limited, the morning workshop on Saturday 16th November at the GJW Office was well received by those who attended, with many expressing an appetite for similar events.
Jonathan covered off topics such as winterisation, trouble shooting on the water, top tips to ensure a reliable engine (inboard or outboard), as well as reinforcing the importance of annual services and checks and keeping an essential on-board ‘First Aid Kit’ of spares.
He also provided information on common causes of breakdowns and the preventative measures that can be put in place for each, finishing off the workshop with an informal question and answer session - almost all stayed on to ask further questions and swap notes!
Feedback from attendees praised Jonathan’s ability to make complex topics simpler for those that didn’t necessarily understand the full workings of an engine. With 20 years' of practical experience on all types of engines and 3500 on water breakdowns in his career, Jonathan was the ideal professional to lead this workshop.
Premier and GJW Direct raised over £40 for the RNLI from the event. Glen Wallis of GJW Direct Southampton had the following to say on the joint venture; “It was an absolute pleasure to host the Engine Care Taster Workshop in collaboration with Premier Marinas. It was a fantastic turn out with everyone engaging with Parker Marine Services about engine maintenance and top tips on ensuring a reliable engine. We hope to run more sessions as the new season approaches.”
