Customer Service Advisor Dee's Summer of Sailing

Date:

Dee Orme, Customer Service Advisor at Gosport Marina, was granted summer leave in order to attend the Vannes/Fareham twinning event in June with her partner John on their UFO 31 ‘Blue Mistique’. Find out all about Dee’s trip in her own words below!

After many months of preparation, our passage plan for the 350 mile voyage down to Vannes included Studland Bay, Channel Isles, Rosscoff, L’Aber Wrach, Camaret Sur Mer, Loctudy (yummy Langoustines!), Ilse De Groix, Port Crouesty and then into Vannes through the Gulfe de Moribhan.

We had some fantastic sailing in glorious sunshine getting there and then a superb week with our French hosts in Vannes who had arranged a splendid agenda for the 7 days. A visit to an Oyster Farm, the Mayor’s Office, some Breton Dancing and a train ride through Vannes were among the events arranged for us, all of which were delightful.

The exchange visit ended all too soon and following an overnight stay on Ille de Ark, it was time for home taking in Port Louis, Lesconil, Camaret Sur Mer and then a very long crossing to Falmouth, 120 miles in one go. To keep us company, we had dolphins, porpoise, Sunfish and an array of seabirds, an amazing wildlife display – sailing at its very best.

Falmouth Marina was a welcome stopover followed by visits to The Yealm, Weymouth, Studland, Bembridge then home after some 900 miles completed.

The trip was a dream come true for John and I and it has made us eager to do more long distance sailing in the future with Blue Mistique!
