The approach to Swanwick marina

The following notes are provided as a guide to approaching Swanwick Marina by sea. Visitors to Swanwick Marina should however make sure that they are aware of all navigational dangers by consulting up-to-date charts and pilot books. Visitors should also be aware of current Notices to Mariners and weather and tides before planning a visit.  Swanwick Marina tide tables are available showing tides correct to local time and chart datum. Swanwick Marina is situated on the eastern bank of the River Hamble, approximately two miles upriver from the entrance to Southampton Water. The Hamble is a popular and busy river and should be navigated with care.

All entrance piles are lit and fitted with radar reflectors. Mariners are advised to keep to the centre line or to starboard of the centre line and should be careful not to get too close to the entrance piles, especially at low water. Inbound vessels over 20m must call Hamble Harbour Radio on Ch 68 at No.1 pile. 

Southampton Harbour also requires inbound vessels to call and monitor Southampton VTS (Vessel Traffic Services) on Ch 12 when passing the Nab Tower and when entering Southampton Harbour waters from the West Solent and adjoining harbours. On the River Hamble there is a 6 knot through the water speed limit and wash should be minimised by all vessels whilst within the River Hamble harbour limits.

Swanwick Marina is situated on the A27, immediately after it crosses the River Hamble, just east of Southampton. The marina is easily reached from either Junction 8 or 9 of the M27. 

From Junction 8 of the M27 - At Junction 8 of the M27 take the exit off the roundabout onto the A3024 (signposted Southampton East) on reaching the Windhover Roundabout (at the top of the ramp) take the first exit onto Providence Hill (signposted Park Gate, Sarisbury, Bursledon) and follow the A27 forward. 

After passing under the railway bridge at Bursledon, proceed to the traffic lights, take the right-hand lane and turn right into Swanwick Marina. 

From Junction 9 of the M27At Junction 9 of the M27 follow the signs for Park Gate and at the Segensworth Roundabout, take the fifth exit onto the A27 westbound signposted Southampton. Continue straight along the A27 through Park Gate and Sarisbury Green. Follow the A27 down the hill and at the traffic lights turn left into Swanwick Marina. Contact the marina.

To Swanwick marina by rail 

Southampton Airport Parkway is the nearest main line station to Swanwick Marina (8 miles away) with trains running regularly from London Waterloo (1 hour 6 mins – 1 hour 28 mins). Bursledon is the nearest local station and is on the Southampton to Portsmouth line, just 8–10 minutes’ walk from the marina. Local trains run approx. once an hour. nationalrail.co.uk

Swanwick Marina is within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. Southampton Airport is also just 8 miles away and offers domestic and international flights.
