Navigating to Dartmouth Marina by sea

Dartmouth Marina offers a sheltered haven on the deep-water River Dart. Ideally located for cruising, Dartmouth is 85 nautical miles from both the West Solent and Cherbourg, and just 70 nautical miles from St Peter Port in Guernsey.

Visitors are welcome, but pre-booking is highly recommended during peak season. Please contact the marina reception upon arrival via VHF Channel 80 or by telephone.

These notes are a simple guide and should not be relied on for navigation. Please consult up-to-date charts, pilot books, and current Notices to Mariners before your voyage. See Dartmouth Marina tide times here.

Entering the harbour

Approaching Dartmouth by sea is safe and straightforward if you follow the local markers. Whether arriving from the east or west, ensure you give a wide berth to the Mewstone and Homestone rocks framing the entrance. By day, look for the historic Daymark tower on the eastern cliffs as your primary landmark. After dark, the Kingswear sector light (Iso.WRG.3s) provides clear guidance safely into the river.

Once inside, keep to the starboard side of the channel, strictly observe the 6-knot speed limit, and remain vigilant for crossing car ferries. As you near the marina, please hail our team on VHF Channel 80 for berthing instructions
